This group promotes self-care; healthy decision-making and helps you learn to recognize the powerful effects of choice.  These sessions will discuss how being aware of the choices you make affects your life. You will learn how to define both your wants and needs, and how these two things are different.  We will look at how your choices affect your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.  We will discuss how learning to develop consistency between what you think and what you do will make a significant change in your life, and help you feel more in control of your life. A variety of topics are included in this 12-week group.  Some of the topics include:

 

• Self Esteem – What is it? and what it isn’t.  Why we need it.
How to know if you don’t have it. 
• Competence and Worthiness – important aspects of self-esteem.
• Self-Care vs. Selfish.
• Your life is speaking to you all the time………..you can change direction at any time.
• Critical Self…………the “Running Tape” of self concept.
• Self Injury – direct and indirect forms of this.
• Choices, reinforcements, why we might be ‘Staying Stuck’.
• Feelings list - how to label what you feel.
• Common Upsetting Beliefs.
• Survival Skills vs. Living Skills
• "Normal” Emotions.
• Reasonable expectations and unrealistic expectations.
• Individual Styles [Passive, Aggressive, Assertive, Passive Aggressive].
• Body Language – Verbal and Non-Verbal.
• Techniques for learning what to do in an emotional crisis.
• The relationship between what we think and what we feel.
• “Thinking errors”.  The way we talk to ourselves is important.

• Personal Space – why we need to know what this is.
Stress   - what is it? Is it good or bad?
